Amy Stewart’s Cocktail Garden

When best-selling author Amy Stewart needed help creating a cocktail garden to celebrate the release of  The Drunken Botanist, she turned to Susan for assistance with the space planning. Only 7’ wide at its narrowest point, the goal was to create a space that could serve as an edible garden, entertaining area and primary pathway from the front of the house to the back. And as Amy said, “if I am going to plant a cocktail garden, it needs to be a place where you would want to sit and have a drink.”

An emphasis on vertical features such as tall containers, shelving and hanging planters maximizes the available space while simultaneously creating a uniquely inviting garden. Turning the fence into a focal point wall created more room for both plants and Amy’s collection of Victorian and cocktail memorabilia.
